White Cake

Directions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Cream shortening, vanilla, and 1½ C sugar together until fluffy.
  3. Add flour mixture and milk alternately, beating only until smooth after each addition
  4. In a large bowl, beat egg whites until frothy, beating constantly.
  5. Add remaining ½ C sugar gradually and continue beating until stiff shiny peaks are formed. Fold into cake batter.
  6. Grease and flour cake pans. Add batter to pans and bake at 350° until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  7. Allow cake to cool in pans for 10 minutes before removing. Frost with basic butter frosting
