Toll House Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Cream butter and sugars. If you want a chewier cookie, melt the butter in the microwave. Otherwise, bring the butter to room temperature and mix it until it is soft enough to add sugars.
  3. After you have combined the butter and sugars, add the eggs one at a time, and the vanilla.
  4. Sift the dry ingredients together and add slowly to the batter.
  5. When fully incorporated, add the chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Pecans and walnuts are both good choices.
  6. Place cookies by tablespoonful about 1" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350° for about 7 minutes.
  7. Cool on a wire rack.
