Basic Pancakes
Ingredients
- 1 C flour
- 1 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- 1 C milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tbs melted butter
Directions
- Mix the dry ingredients together and add the wet ingredients stirring only enough to mix. You may need more than 1 C of milk if the batter is too thick or if you are using buttermilk instead of regular milk. For best results, rest the batter 20-30 minutes before cooking.
- Heat a griddle over medium heat until water drops sizzle on the surface.
- When the griddle is heated, grease lightly with vegetable oil or shortening on a paper towel.
- Drop the pancake batter by the ladle onto the griddle.
- When bubbles form and then break on the surface of the pancake, they are ready to turn.
- Remove from the griddle and serve immediately.
