Cheddar Biscuits
Bisquick Alternative
Ingredients
- 2 C buttermilk baking mix (small box equals 2 cups, Bisquick or Jiffy Mix)
- 160 ml milk
- ½ C shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ C butter
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Directions
- Preheat oven to 450°.
- Combine mix, milk and cheese with a wooden spoon until soft dough forms, then beat vigorously 30 seconds.
- Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
- Combine butter and garlic powder and brush over warm biscuits before removing from cookie sheet.
- Serve warm - makes 10 large biscuits.
Flour Alternative
Ingredients
- 1 C all-purpose flour
- 1 C cake flour
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder, divided
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- 4 tbs cold butter, divided
- ½ C finely shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 C buttermilk
- ½ tsp dried parsley flakes
Directions
- Preheat over to 425°
- In a large bowl, combine the flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt, half of the garlic powder and baking soda.
- Cut in 3 tbs butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, add cheese, then stir in buttermilk just until moistened.
- Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto baking sheets coated with cooking spray.
- Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes.
- Melt remaining butter, stir in parsley and remaining garlic powder, and brush over biscuits.
- Serve warm.
